Creative Writer/ Acupuncturist
Doug Vanisky was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He studied creative writing at the University of Pittsburgh, and comparative philosophy and sociology while traveling around the globe on the Semester at Sea study abroad program.
After living in Lake Tahoe, he left a corporate strategy job in healthcare to study acupuncture, herbology, and the complete suite of Chinese medicine in San Francisco. During this time, Doug interned in private clinics and at the California Pacific Medical Center’s Stroke Clinic, while also helping to shape a class on integrative medicine that would eventually be formalized into the curriculum at the UCSF School of Medicine as one of the first classes of it’s kind on integrative and functional medicine.
The Unification of Duality
After graduating with a Masters of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Doug practiced as a California Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) for several years. With a blended background in creative work and healthcare, Doug quickly fell back into healthcare communications, where he became passionate about reaching mass audiences with healthcare campaigns. Doug served as a copywriter, strategist, and creative director for a multitude of premium, global healthcare brands—with a main focus on empowering people to improve their health with novel consumer products, breakthrough products, medical devices, personalized treatments, emotional and technological tools, and breath work.
Doug lives in the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan area with his wonderful wife, two children, and one wild German Short-haired Pointer.
